My present work is involved in making one-off pieces. The surface of the bowls are adjusted either to emphasise the particular qualities of a piece of wood or to deliberately react against those qualities. The shape and grain of the bowl influences the way any modifications are made to it. I use temperate hardwoods, mainly ash and sycamore.’
